JOB SUMMARY:

Cleveland Clinic Investment Office Overview
The Cleveland Clinic Investment Office (CCIO) is stewarded by the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors. Guided by the Investment Policy Statement for each of the investment portfolios, CCIO invests across a globally diversified pool of asset classes and employs many of the world’s most successful investment managers for security selection of public and private equities, fixed income, absolute return strategies, real assets and derivative products. CCIO is a values-driven organization. From its inception in 2015, the Investment Committee and senior leadership sought to create a division of the Cleveland Clinic whose foundation is excellence and innovation. The Investment Office embraces a generalist model of investing where a team of experts are focused on delivering value to the total portfolio, engage in constructive debate, thrive on collaboration, embrace a sense of personal humility, and seek to continuously improve. CCIO is responsible for managing and growing the $8 billion investment portfolio
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches, compiles, tabulates, and analyzes data and processes for a variety of administrative and departmental matters.
  • Assists department personnel in assigned administrative, planning, organizational, technical, and professional tasks.
  • Provides suggestions or recommendations with regard to department specific projects.
  • Prepares and presents reports; drafts policies and procedures; responds to requests for information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Intern will have a chance to work on the following types of projects o Help with implementation of risk system
  • Help with automation of team processes o Scenario analysis on risk hedging opportunities
  • Data visualization on open trades
  • Help with the creation and implementation of a data warehouse
  • Investigate potential impact of Blockchain technology on investment operations o Use Google trends / analytics and Big Data within the context of asset allocators
  • Review and update our capital market assumptions o Creating daily tracker of economic indicators o Monitor hedging overlay costs
  • Investigate and implement more useful functions from Bloomberg o Be involved in meetings with high quality asset managers, peers and vendors

EDUCATION:

  • Current college enrollment required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, Business or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • None required.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification preferred. Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) is also a plus.

COMPLEXITY OF LEARNING EXPERIENCE:

  • Can discuss and weigh pros and cons and separate critical issues.
  • Can make definitive choices, expresses opinions on issues and can explain logical path decisions.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Must be able to juggle multiple assignments and execute in an effective and efficient manner.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • None required.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years of related business experience preferred
  • Multi-asset investment experience or exposure across traditional and alternative asset classes is desirable.
  • Master’s degree may offset some required experience.
  • Ability to complete sophisticated analytical, consultative and information support through analysis and report preparation.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills, decisive judgment and the ability to lead projects and people.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling/lifting items, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent standing and sitting.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
