The Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey is a monthly survey of manufacturers in the Third Federal Reserve District. The Nonmanufacturing Business Outlook Survey (NBOS) is a monthly survey of nonmanufacturers in the Third Federal Reserve District. Participants indicate the direction of change in overall business activity and in the various measures of activity at their firms, including new orders, sales or revenues, employment, prices, and capital expenditures. This page provides national and regional data on the number of new single-family houses sold and for sale. It also provides national data on median and average prices, the number of houses sold and for sale by stage of construction, and other statistics. The data are from the Survey of Construction (SOC), which is partially funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Each month since November 1993, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond has conducted the Survey of Manufacturing Activity. The survey is sent electronically to manufacturing firms that are selected for participation according to their type of business, location, and firm size.
About 200 contacts receive questionnaires and approximately 90 to 95 of those surveyed respond in a typical month. Respondents report on various aspects of their business, such as shipments, new orders, order backlogs, inventories, and expectations for business activity during the next six months.Find out more »
